Do you live near a Trader Joe’s?…they have some relatively less expensive eco-friendly cleaners. But I feel your pain…there just isn’t enough competition in this area yet.
Consider that eventhough it is expensive, you aren’t buying it as often as food.
Most of what you are looking for can probably be found in the first site listed below.
Sample recipe for Household Cleaner
Mix together:
1 tsp. liquid soap (castile, peppermint)
1 tsp. borax
Squeeze of lemon
1 qt. warm water
OR
¼ c. baking soda
½ c. borax
½ c. vinegar
1 gal. water
For surfaces that need scouring, try moist salt or baking soda and a green scouring pad.

You know, diluted white vinegar will clean almost anything…. coffee makers, carpets, clothes, floors, etc. It’s super cheap and very accessible.
Beyond that, Restore products are a bit more affordable than Seventh Generation and work very well. I’m not sure if they’re available in your area but usually if you can buy them, you can refill the containers and save $1 each time you refill a bottle. You can check out their website at.
The “degreaser” they make is pretty impressive for an ecofriendly cleanser, I’ve used it to remove bicycle grease from my carpet and lots of random laundry stains that no other spot cleaner could get out.
Hope that’s helpful… good luck!

Believe it or not, vinegar makes for a great cleaning agent, and has many useful purposes. Do a search on vinegar cleaner and see what it produces.
