I found this company on Craig’s List (though I’ve never used them.)
They claim to use cleaning solution that is non-toxic and safe around children.

sure it’s called do it yourself. or rip all of your carpet out and have bare floors. carpet, if you think about it, is a very big contributor to pollution both in the manufacturing of it and when you are done with is, so thanks for polluting the planet, cleaners only helo with that also.
Or you could look in a phone book! gee what a good idea.

I’ve not heard of any Organic carpet cleaners. Most carpet manufacturers recommend Hot water extraction or steaming cleaning. If you are afraid of chemicals, which is completely understandable!, then you might want to buy or rent your own machine and just use a vinegar solution to clean your carpets. 1/4 cup to 1 gallon very hot but not boiling water will do the trick without voiding the manufacturers warranty.
If you do clean your own carpets, then make sure you use twice as much suction as solution. one pass with vinegar solution then two passes with just the suction. Be careful not walk on the carpet more than necessary for at least 24 hours.

Why not just rent a shampooer yourself (I get mine at Wal-Mart) and use a gentle cleaning solution? I have used pet friendly cleaners, or plain old laundry detergent.
I also have pets and a small child around on occasion.
This way you can be sure of what you are getting.

I have used ZeroRez Minneapolis Carpet Cleaning as well. They did a very good job and do not use any chemicals. I was skeptical about the non-toxic cleaning solution, supposedly organic carpet cleaning, so the ZeroRez cleaner drank some of the carpet cleaning fluid. Then he kicked **** on the carpet.
