How can I get a really clean kitchen without nasty chemicals?

mari asked:
Ants have invaded my kitchen, and I want to get my kitchen as clean as possible, so there won’t be any crumbs, sticky stuff on the counter, etc. to attract the ants, but I don’t want to use artificial chemicals that will leave a residue or make my kitchen smell like a chem lab. Does anyone have suggestions for natural or other non-toxic ways to get my kitchen really clean?

Hi, to get rid of the ants I head that if you sprinkle cornmeal where they are at, that when they eat it, and bring it down the holes, they die. Just found what you use to kill ants.
ANT CONTROL TONIC
4 to 5 tbsp. cornmeal
3 tbsp. bacon grease
3 tbsp. baking powder
3 packages of yeast (I would opt for the rapid rise)
Mix cornmeal & bacon grease into a paste, then add baking powder &
yeast. Dab the gooey mix on the insides of jar lids, and
set them near the ant hills.
When ants eat this mixture, they swell up and go to the big ant hill in
the sky.
And to clean just make up a natural all-purpose cleanser and disinfectant.
This spray is good for both kitchen and bathroom surfaces. It works double duty, cutting grease and grime while killing germs.
1 tsp borax
1/2 tsp washing soda
2 tabl. lemon juice
1. In a pint spray bottle, combine the ingredients. Add 1 cup very hot water and shake well to mix and dissolve the dry ingredients.
2. To use, simply spray on the surface and wipe off with a sponge or rag. This solution can be stored indefinitely.
Hope that helps, good luck,

Vinegar and water. I know it sounds smelly but the smell really does go away and it’s a natural disinfectant and deodorizer. I had ants come to snack on the crumbs in my dishwasher after we moved into this house. I used Terro. It worked well for me.
