I have some stains on my carpet and need overall deep cleaning. The foamy kind of carpet cleaners that you get in cans in the supermarket are effective enough but have so many chemicals in the them that your house reeks of those chemicals for days plus they are bad for your health.

Is there a natural cleaner or an organic product that will do deep cleaning and take out the dirt and remove light stains. Getting professional cleaner is not an option for me.
Thanks for any suggestions!!

We bought our own carpet shampooer and we use what ever we chose in it.
Ours happens to be a Hoover but there are others. If you have lots of carpets it a good deal cheaper that renting a machine.
They work very well, are easy to operate and are around $200 or less depending on where you are and what features you want.
The shampoo that is recommended for them does not usually stink up the house like the aerosol stuff you are talking about.
On my oldest carpet, I use the same laundry detergent I use on my clothes. After all, carpet is woven fabric. Although the carpet has seen better days, the laundry detergent gets it nice and clean. I pretreat the stains like I would for a stained shirt.
On my newer carpet I do use the recommended carpet shampoo.
Your best bet is to purchase your own carpet cleaner, such as a Hoover SteamVac or similar, which will have the ability to clean and rinse your carpet. With your own machine, you can clean more regularly, particularly heavy traffic areas, to keep your house clean. While the Hoover does work well, it pales in comparison to a Rug Doctor. Rug Doctor makes the carpet cleaners you typically see for rent at the grocery store. They are highly effective at removing deep, ground in dirt. Rug Doctors are also available for purchase.
No matter what brand of machine you rent or buy, Rug Doctor cleaning supplies are the most effective and economical. There are also “home remedy” cleaners that you can make yourself that can enhance or replace commercial cleaners.
